"Pop Warner, the Nation's Largest and Oldest youth football organization is proud to announce their expansion into the Algonquin, Lake in the Hills and the surrounding communities . The Algonquin Argonauts are the newest team to join the organization, which has been around since the inception of the league in 1929.  It consists of over 7000 tackle and flag teams throughout 41 states.  Overall participation has steadily increased to today's record numbers. Over 240,000 youths participated in Pop Warner-sanctioned football programs in 2004, and those numbers are continuing to grow Pop Warner also has the only national youth sports organization that requires scholastic aptitude to participate.

Football league plans sign-ups for Algonquin youngsters
ALGONQUIN – A new youth football league is holding open registration Saturday at its downtown Algonquin office.

The Algonquin Argonauts are part of the Pop Warner youth football program.

Argonauts Vice President Dave Patterson said the league would field teams in three age groups, ranging from ages 6 to 12, for tackle football.

Patterson said Hoffman Estates and Gilberts each has teams in the league that the Argonauts will compete in this year.

“We saw a need in Algonquin for another football league,” Patterson said.

Fifty-five children have signed up for the various team so far, he said.

Saturday’s registration will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 329 Jefferson.

Patterson said the fee to play was $300, which included everything but shoes and a mouth guard.
